How do you use these?

Any way you can imagine!
In hair, on garments, accessories—
even bulletin boards!

Flowers with RIBBON CASINGS are intended to be worn in the hair. Slipping a barrette through the ribbon casing is most secure for wearing flower in the hair. Slip a ribbon through the casing to wear as a choker or to tie onto pony tails or braids. To wear on garments or on a hat, use the corsage pin or safety pin to clothing.

Flowers with WIG CLIPS (Snap Combs) or BARRETTES are also intended for wearing in hair. Snap comb into open position, slide into place, and snap shut. They can also be snapped onto the edge of light to moderate weight garments — neckline, pocket, etc.. Barrette findings are usually too bulky to use the flower as a corsage; however Flowers with Snap Combs can sometimes be worn as a corsage or on hat, by using a corsage pin.

Flowers with pin-backs can be pinned to almost anything — dress, blouse, denim jackets, coats, hats of all kinds, handbags. (Caution: pinning to leather, vinyl or similar fabrics will leave permanent pin holes.)

Flowers with pin-backs may also be worn in the hair. First secure hair with barrette or hair band. Then above that, carefully slide pin or through hair like a barrette and close or slide the pin underneath the hair band or barrette and close. Alternately, the pin-back may be slid underneath the hair band or barrette, or it can be pinned to scrunchies, head bands, scarves, etc..

Also enjoy them about the house or next to your computer by pinning them to bulletin board, nestling them in a lovely dish or wine glass. The possibilities are endless!

How do you care for these flowers?

Handle with clean, dry hands.

Protect it from dust, moisture, extended exposure to sunlight, crushing etc..

Store and transport in its own box.

Although the components are theoretically cleanable, any cleaning process may alter its character, and some components may not hold up to any cleaning process. If the worst does happen, take it to a reputable dry cleaner and ask if it may be spot cleaned, or if they can protect it by special handling.

Be aware that with the silks, especially, some colors may bleed. Although I do try to rinse excess dye from each ribbon, some are not in order to maintain a deep, intense hue. Notably, the reds, purples and blues are most prone to bleeding.

What are the prices?

Prices vary according to materials used, time involved, and degree of complexity, construction, and artistry. Although our society tends to equate value with size, a small flower or composition can take just as long to construct as a large one. Remember, Silk Road Flowers by Far'ha are lovingly hand sewn, including the finish work on the back — no craft glue for the backings; no Hot Glued findings that will pop off.

Custom orders?

You Bet!

Contact me and tell me what you would like. I'll then ask a lot of questions about color, style of flowers, approximate size, intended use, desired attitude, etc. to get a feel for your aesthetics and specific accessorizing need.

Groups, e.g., Red Hat Society Chapters or bridal parties, may want multiples of same design and color — or variations on a theme. This is possible, but remember, no two flowers are ever exactly alike!

All special orders are subject to availability of materials.

Why Silk Road Flowers?

An ambiguous question with a three-part answer!

The business came about as an evolution of a solution to a personal need. One flower lead to another until the garden grew large enough to share.

The name, Silk Road Flowers, came from my dance background, studying the dances and costuming of the Silk Road, Arab trade routes and the "Gypsy" trail. The Silk Road conjures images of exotic fabrics and spices, and flowers are often used to adorn a dancer's headdress.

Why buy flowers at all — and specifically Silk Road Flowers by Far'ha?

Throughout history, flowers have conveyed messages, most often of love. As fashion still plays with retro-70s themes, we are reminded of the catch-phrase, "flower Power" and its message of Peace and Love. Flowers brighten our spirits, remind us of someone's love and the promise of spring. The artistry combined with the care and quality of the construction of Silk Road Flowers conveys all that in an ever-lasting bloom.
